Marc Rebillet was just 18 years old when he sold his place at the very front of the line for the first ever iPhone. He was camped out in front of an AT&T in Dallas, Texas, where he was interviewed by Fox 4, when a woman offered him $800 for his spot. Armed with $100,000 in cash, the woman hoped to buy out the store’s stock of iPhones but was disappointed when she discovered that only one could be purchased per customer. Now, Rebillet has recalled the day he spent 12 hours waiting in line. Appearing on Steve-o’s podcast over on YouTube, Wild Ride, the now 36-year-old shared his side of the story, saying: “Her plan was to get first in line so she could buy all the iPhones and sell them on eBay.”

Rebillet continued: “It made for a great news story. “The thought that I had was that it might have been some sort of guerilla marketing on Apple’s behalf, they put her up to it because she rolled up and right after her [was] Fox, CBS. “So, it was like, she pulled up and the news was right there.”

However, Rebillet still walked away with the $800, which was enough for him to buy himself an iPhone and have $300 to spare. Since then, he has gone on to have an incredibly successful career on YouTube and in the music industry nearly two decades later. He has amassed more than 2.42 million subscribers on YouTube where he posts various live streams, music videos, and comedic shorts, and he's also played a number of high-profile gigs and festivals across the world. Rebillet has also made roughly 98,000% more than the initial $800 price for his spot in line in the last year alone, according to social media income tracking platform Hafi. Across an overall audience of around 8.5 million users, Hafi estimates that Rebillet's earnings over the last year are anywhere between $784,819 and $1,041,264. And that doesn't even include money earned outside of the internet. If you position that original Fox 4 interview back in 2007 as the genesis of his fame, that now-measly $800 has certainly gone a long way, and was more than worth the effort of sitting in line for 12 hours. Time to wait for his next viral song over on TikTok.
